ABOUT PAM

PAM BUTTERFIELD
Pam Butterfield, PT, MPT, loves helping people improve their health and quality of life. She is a natural educator who strives to empower people with the knowledge they need to take their health into their own hands. By developing a plan with goals and accountability, Pam brings out the best in everyone she serves. In addition to being a physical therapist, Pam is certified in professional yoga therapy (PYT), integrative lifestyle medicine (ILM), and ergonomics (CEAS2).
In her nearly 30 years as a physical therapist, Pam has worked in every therapy setting: hospitals, outpatient, in the home, ICU and acute rehabilitation, as well as industrial settings. She has worked with pediatric and geriatric clients, and all ages in between. She has worked with people with orthopedic difficulties, and those suffering from complex neurologic and trauma conditions.

As a volunteer, Pam helped expand physical therapy programs in Armenia while serving in the Peace Corps from 2003 to 2005. She provided staff training and expanded that country's health care to include physical therapy for adults in hospitals, the home, and in outpatient environments, particularly for those with neurologic conditions. Pam also taught yoga and initiated yoga teacher training, which continued after she left Armenia in 2005. More recently, she provided amputee prosthetic training to staff in Ukraine.

Pam's training in medical therapeutic yoga has made her a much more holistic and effective physical therapist, and health and wellness consultant. These skills, combined with her additional certifications and continuing education coursework, have greatly enhanced Pam's ability to see the big picture, and to quickly identify and counteract contributing factors. Her individualized coaching focuses on transforming knowledge into action and, thus, results.

Pam particularly enjoys working with people who have lost hope or don't know where to begin, to help them make positive changes. Too many of us have accepted that "this is as good as it gets", either because we were told so, or because health care options were limited by insurance coverage. Others may believe, simply, "This is just what it's like to get old." Pam, who has had her share of injuries and health challenges, doesn't accept these limiting mindsets. She leads by example and empowers her clients reach their full potential.

Whether you are dealing with pain, movement challenges, a disability, or are pursuing wellness goals, where you spend your time is where the assessment needs to be done. Often, the ergonomics of a setting contributes substantially to someone's pain or functional deficits. Pam is able to see how the environment can be improved or used therapeutically to enhance the client's outcome. Therapeutic activities and exercises can be done wherever you are, without having to make repeated trips to a clinic. Integrating therapy and exercises into a client's everyday activities is the recipe for success, and the key to realizing goals.
